Is it better to stay in St Kitts or Nevis?

It really depends on what kind of vacation you are looking for.

St Kitts is the larger of the 2 islands and has much more to do in terms of activities and nightlife, but it is generally considered that Nevis has much better beaches and restaurants.

On St Kitts you can go ziplining, ATV tours, snorkelling, scuba diving, horse riding and hiking, St Kitts also has a UNESCO world heritage site at Brimstone Hill fortress.

There are lots of shops, bars and restaurants to explore and the best nightlife is in St Kitts, there are also more option for accommodation in St Kitts to suit any budget. So, if you are looking for an adventurous vacation then it is better to stay in St Kitts.

Nevis although it does have hikes, horse riding and ATV tours it also has a much calmer vibe with more focus on the beautiful, secluded beaches, botanical gardens and exclusive luxury boutique hotels. The restaurants in Nevis are generally much better too with world class chefs.

So, if you are looking for a luxurious relaxing vacation then Nevis is the better place to stay. Nevis is also a popular retreat for famous faces as it is relatively unknown, and they are less likely to be bothered.

All-Inclusive Hotels in St Kitts

There are no primarily all-inclusive hotels in St Kitts but the Belle Mont Farm, Park Hyatt Resort and the Marriott Resort all offer an all-inclusive option when booking. It is worth noting that they are all luxury hotels in St Kitts so the all-inclusive price will reflect this.

We have found that all-inclusive options are not always available however so check with the hotel you want to stay at beforehand if you are set on all-inclusive. Depending on the time of year and the hotel you want to stay at in St Kitts you may have to choose a different board option.

Park Hyatt Resort

Located at the very end of the southeast peninsula in the Christophe Harbor development, Park Hyatt resort is a fantastic luxury hotel with lots of options for rooms. The Park Hyatt is one of only a handful of beach front hotels in St Kitts, just steps from Banana Bay which is one of the best beaches in St Kitts and all rooms have beautiful views over the Caribbean Sea to Nevis.

Some of the suites also have a private pool and deck area.

One of our favourite things about the Park Hyatt hotel in St Kitts is that there are different swimming pools to choose from including an adult only pool and beautiful private cabanas for hire around the pool area.

There is also a wonderful spa, with lots of treatments to choose from. Perfect to relax and unwind when staying in St Kitts.

The Park Hyatt also has the only adult only restaurant in St Kitts at the Stone barn restaurant which offers a romantic dinner for two inside the waterfall side cabana and is a great romantic activity for honeymoon in St Kitts.

One thing not to miss is the all-inclusive Sunday brunch buffet at the Fisherman’s village restaurant. You don’t have to stay at the Park Hyatt to take advantage of this wonderful spread which includes bottomless mimosas and a huge selection of hot and cold food, fresh baked bread and pastries and cook to order dishes.

Due to the location at the far end of the island we recommend renting a car to stay at the Park Hyatt Resort so you can explore the rest of the island independently. Check car rental prices here.

Prices start from $825 a night.

Belle Mont Farm- Kittitian Hill

Set in 400 acres of organic farmland and tropical rainforest high up on Mount Liamuiga, Belle Mont Farm, part of the Kittitian Hill development, is St Kitts first eco-hotel with a huge focus on sustainability.

Previously the location of a sugar plantation, Belle Mont Farm features individual secluded cottages and villas hidden designed in a similar colonial style to the original sugar plantation buildings set amongst the gardens with many having their own private pool.

The main hotel features an impressive 100ft infinity pool overlooking the ocean and neighbouring island of St Eustatius, spa facilities, a fully equipped gym, tennis court and ‘edible’ 9-hole golf course.

The golf course meanders through the farmland and golfers can help themselves to the sustainable fruit trees as they play.

Dining options at Belle Mont Farm include one on-site restaurant and the wonderful farm to table experience which is a communal dinner party hosted 3 times a week. There is also an all-inclusive meal option which is an additional $220 per person for a minimum of 3 nights.

There are 2 bars in the hotel and transport to the nearby Arthurs restaurant on the beach at Dieppe Bay can be arranged.

Prices start from $555 a night.

Marriott Resort & Royal Beach Casino

Located in Frigate Bay the Marriott Resort is incredibly popular all year round. With lots of options to stay in from basic hotel rooms to suites and even villas with full kitchen facilities there is a room for everyone.

While the Marriott does sometimes have an all-inclusive option this is not always available as with the Park Hyatt resort. However, they do have 8 restaurants, cafes and bars to choose from meaning you can easily spend your entire vacation in the hotel if you wish.

The steak and seafood restaurants are not to be missed as they are some of the best restaurants in St Kitts with high quality ingredients cooked to perfection. The pizza shack is also one of our favourites and we love popping in to get pizza from here even when we are not staying.

The Marriott Resort also has it’s own casino where we enjoy spending a couple of hours on a night out in St Kitts because the drinks are free if you are playing at the casino tables.

Marriott Resort also has 3 pools to choose from with towels provided and each pool area has it’s own jacuzzi attached. Around the pool area there are plenty of sun loungers so no need to get up early to reserve your favourite sitting spot.

The Marriott has a dedicated beach area too with private cabanas to relax in. As with all beaches in St Kitts the beach is accessible by the public but that doesn’t mean it is busy.

Sometimes the current can be quite strong on the Frigate Bay north beach where the Marriott is located because it is on the Atlantic Ocean side of the island and not the Caribbean side. That does mean it is great for water sports such as kiteboarding and bodyboarding though if you are feeling adventurous.

Prices start from $293 a night.

Sugar Bay Club has 2 lovely swimming pools to choose from with sun loungers and is located on Frigate Bay north beach, slightly further down from the Marriott Resort.

For scuba divers the hotel partners with Kenneth’s Dive Center which is the longest standing PADI dive center on St Kitts. We have dived with Kenneth’s many times in St Kitts, and it is always a positive experience.

Bird Rock Beach Hotel

This is the closest beach hotel to Basseterre, the main town in St Kitts. Located in the residential area of Bird Rock, the Bird Rock Beach Hotel is the cheapest hotel on the beach in St Kitts. It is another hotel popular with scuba divers in St Kitts because it is the location of Dive St Kitts which offers a stay and dive package.

The hotel has studio, queen, and king rooms available and has a lovely quiet, private pool and garden area for guests. All rates include breakfast and there is sometimes the option for all-inclusive stays usually when booking a scuba diving package. There is a restaurant and bar on site and there are a couple of other bars within easy walking distance.

The nearest restaurants are around a 20-minute walk, and it takes around 30 minutes to walk into Basseterre. Due to being located near to Basseterre, Bird Rock Beach Hotel is on the local ‘H’ bus route so getting around the island is much easier than from hotels located in Frigate Bay.

Buses from Bird Rock take around 5 minutes into Basseterre and there are no specific bus stops just stick your arm out when you see one approaching.

The small sand beach at Bird Rock Beach Hotel has sun loungers for guests and as a man-made bay it is very shallow which makes it suitable for young children. The bay wall which was created to enclose the beach is good for snorkelling around and you can enjoy watching the brown pelicans dive for fish from the wall.

Located on the Caribbean Sea the water is clear, warm and calm for swimmers of any level to enjoy and there are complimentary kayaks available for guests to use.

Dive packages start from $829 which includes daily breakfast, 7 nights accommodation, 2 tank dives daily for 5 days plus a night dive with tanks and weights included, other equipment is available to hire for an additional cost.

Ramada by Wyndam Hotel

The newest built resort in St Kitts Ramada is located towards the north of the island in the tranquil area of St Pauls. The hotel is 100% smoke free and pet friendly which we absolutely love.

Boasting the largest pool on St Kitts surrounded by a large sun deck with fantastic views over to the neighbouring island of St Eustatius the Ramada is a great place to stay in St Kitts.

There are 5 on site restaurants offering a variety of cuisines from Asian to Italian to Mexican. There is also a chef’s market buffet restaurant, 24 hour pizzeria and a food truck serving classic comfort food like burgers and fries.

Due to the location of the Ramada Hotel, we recommend renting a car to get around the island as there is not much within walking distance.

The hotel also doesn’t have a beach which is a shame but there are lots of lovely beaches nearby including our favourite black sand beach at Fig Tree Bay which is a 7-minute drive away.

Prices start from $250 a night.

What is the best way to get around St Kitts?

No matter where you stay in St Kitts getting around is relatively easy. If you are staying at one of the hotels in Basseterre or around the main part of the island, then public transport is frequent and cheap with local ‘H’ buses servicing all the local villages.

If you are staying in Frigate Bay or on the southeast peninsula, then the best way to get around St Kitts and the method of transportation we recommend is to rent a car. The reason for this is taxis can be very expensive and the local ‘H’ buses don’t run in these areas which is where most of the hotels in St Kitts are located.

If you are looking for how to get from St Kitts to Nevis then check out our complete guide.
