If you’re anything like us one of the things we enjoy most about going on holiday is enjoying a cheeky beverage or two. If you’re looking for the perfect alcoholic drink in St Kitts and Nevis to sip on one of the many beautiful beaches, or maybe to accompany your evening meal. Then look no further because we have compiled this ultimate guide to the best alcoholic drinks in St Kitts and Nevis.

Purple Rain

This fantastic cocktail can be found at the Thai restaurant within the Botanical Gardens on Nevis. Deliciously fruity and made with fresh botanicals it’s one of many delights on the cocktail menu along with the amazing Thai food.

Rum Punch

Rum Punch is as widespread in the Caribbean as sand. However you have not lived until you have tried the best rum punch on St Kitts. Made by Morsi at Discovery Beach Bar, the recipe is a closely guarded secret! All we know is that it has fresh passion fruit and is deliciously strong. Two of these and you will need a ride back to your hotel!

While we are on the subject of rum punches, you can’t visit Nevis without having the oldest rum punch in the Caribbean at The Hermitage. The recipe is almost as old as The Hermitage itself and dates back over 300 years to when the now boutique hotel was a working sugar plantation.

The final entry on our rum punch tour of St Kitts and Nevis is the Killer Bee at Sunshine’s Bar on Nevis. This has to be one of the world’s most famous rum punches featuring in magazines and on tv shows. No one is quite sure what is in the top secret recipe but it certainly has a sting, one of these is more than enough for the average beach goer.

Ting with a Sting

Ting is the local grapefruit beverage found throughout the Caribbean, although the ting on St Kitts is supposed to be the best of all the Caribbean islands. The sting part is any white rum, mix them together, add a wedge of fresh lime= Ting with a Sting. Ting with a Sting can be found at most bars and restaurants in St Kitts and Nevis and are refreshingly delicious.

Kittian Cowboy

One of the many cocktails on offer at Mr X’s Shiggidy Shack. This fruity cocktail featuring Malibu and pineapple juice amongst other things it is the kind of drink that sneaks up on you.

Margarita

Now I know what you’re thinking, Margaritas are Mexican! Yes I know that, but you can’t visit St Kitts without a trip to Chinchillas Mexican restaurant, and you cant visit Chinchillas without having a Giant Margarita.

Carib Beer

Carib beer was originally produced in Trinidad and Tobago in 1950. Since then this light refreshing lager can be found throughout the Caribbean islands and is now produced in Grenada and St Kitts too. No ‘island lime’ would be complete without a cooler full of Carib. Carib can be found in every bar, restaurant, and supermarket on St Kitts and Nevis. Bottles are most common but some places have cans or Carib on draft.

There are a few variations of Carib nowadays including a Carib light which has less alcohol, and Carib radler which is your favourite Carib lager with fresh lemon juice. A fancy version of a lager shandy if you will. Radler has a lower alcohol content and is my go to drink for beach days. Whatever variation of Carib you want to enjoy, nothing says living the Caribbean life better.

Stag Beer

Stag is a European style lager with a distinct, robust flavour and a lingering but gentle aftertaste, which is stronger tasting than Carib. It has the slogan “A Man’s Beer” and supposedly embodies male characteristics, personally I think this is just a marketing tactic to get macho men to buy it. Nevertheless, it’s a pretty good lager, even by women’s standards.

Skol Beer

Skol is the only lager on this list that is brewed in the traditional sense. Making it the strongest of the three beers that are brewed locally on St Kitts. Skol is produced in St. Kitts & Nevis under a licensing agreement with Skol International, whose aim was the creation of a world-wide beer brand. Not as widely know as Carib and Stag but you can find Skol in any beach bar or restaurant, you just have to know to ask for it.

Caribe Cider

Cider is a relatively new addition to St Kitts. Back in 2019 when we arrived you couldn’t find cider anywhere. Except perhaps a 2 litre bottle of Strongbow in the supermarket. Not quite what we had in mind. Brewed at the local Carib brewery you can now get Caribe cider, which is similar to the fruit ciders you may find in Europe. Caribe comes in a lovely original apple flavour, or if you’re feeling fancy get the Rose. It’s slightly sweeter but equally as delicious. You can find Caribe in some bars and restaurants or you can buy it from the supermarket.

It’s worth noting that you can buy all of the Carib products in crates directly at the brewery, including their range of soft drinks. Handy if you are an expat or even if you are just staying for a while on holiday.
